History
Lucan Gospel Choir is a collection of soulful singers performing a wide range of music, with a blend of powerful voices and delicate harmonies…. a Lucan Gospel Choir appearance is not to be missed.
Formed in 1998 by Bernie Martin as Lucan Gospel Singers the current choir was later reformed as Lucan Gospel Choir by its current director as it grew. It now has almost 90 members making it one of Irelands most successful community gospel choirs. A not for profit group, the choir sings for fun, raising much needed funds for charities and community groups along the way. The fun doesn’t stop there, Lucan Gospel Choir has an active social committee, ensuring that choir members make lifelong friends as well as music.
Under the direction of accomplished director of Ian Brabazon with accompaniment provided by Dr. Martin O’Leary the choir performs at the highest standards of performance, the choir have a wide repertoire of traditional gospel and contemporary songs. Performing tracks from well-known artists from Leonard Cohen to U2, the choir provided the gospel sound for the Elvis Presley 40th Anniversary Concert at National Concert Hall, as well as gracing the stages of Irelands other top venues such as The Olympia Theatre, The Helix, Driocht, and The Civic Theatre. The choir have also featured on The Late Late Show, The Republic of Telly & the Craig Doyle Show.
Not only do the choir perform in Ireland, they have travelled to America, Spain and Malta to perform. Our last Maltese trip included a specially commissioned piece “Do Not Go Gentle” performed with the Joy Gospel Choir, this piece was commissioned by the Irish Life Saving Foundation, and is now used by the International Life Saving Foundation in honour of all those who risk their own safety to save others a very proud achievement in the choirs history.
The choir have also recorded with Buffalo Sun on their album By the Ocean By the Sea produced by Grammy winning producer Pat McCarthy who has worked for Counting Crows, R.E.M., and U2
